What is Seedling?

Seedling is based on the idea that saving for a child is easier when everyone helps. When you sign up for Seedling, you can then apply to open a Custodial Savings Account online. When you open a SeedlingCustodial Savings Account, you’re able to invite anyone - friends, family, neighbors - to save for your child.

What is a custodial savings account?

A custodial savings account is a financial account that an adult, parent or custodian opens and maintains on behalf of a child or minor. When the child/minor reaches legal age, the account is transferred to them.

How can I find documents and account statements about my Seedling Custodial Savings Account?

You can find out how to view your account statements on the Documents page in your Seedling Dashboard. Monthly statements will also be mailed to the address listed on your account for each of your Seedling Custodial Savings Accounts.

Will I receive a bank card if I open a Seedling Custodial Savings Account?

Yes. You will receive a debit card when you open a Seedling Custodial Savings Account. The debit card you received associated with the Seedling Custodial Savings Account may be used in accordance with the Seedling Custodial Account Agreement.

Can I open a Seedling Custodial Savings Account for any child/minor?

Yes, anyone may apply to open a Seedling Custodial Savings Account for a child/minor. However, the individual seeking to open the account will need accurate personal information, such as the child’s name, date of birth, address, and social security number.

I have set up my Seedling profile. How do I apply for a Seedling Custodial Savings Account?

To get started, visit the Seedling Savings account opening page. Opening a Seedling Custodial Savings Account is similar to opening a traditional banking account: We will ask for personal and financial information about you and the child/minor. To speed up your account application, it helps to have the following information about the child/minor handy: his/her name, date of birth, address and social security number.

What is the interest rate for a Seedling Custodial Savings Account?

The interest rate on the Seedling Custodial Savings Account varies depending the state in which it is opened. When you visit the Seedling Savings website, you will see the Interest Rate that is available for your state of residence.

Are there any fees or restrictions for opening a Seedling Custodial Savings Account?

There is no minimum deposit needed to open an Seedling Custodial Savings Account and there is no fee as long as you maintain an average monthly balance of $500. If an average monthly balance is below $500, then there is a fee of $4.50 per month.

How can I contribute to a Seedling Custodial Savings Account?

Once your Seedling Custodial Savings Account is approved, you can deposit funds using any bank debit card. We are actively working on adding more payment methods.

Is there a limit to how much and how frequently I can contribute to my account?

As a custodian, the deposit limit depends on how you’re contributing to your account. Currently we offer contribution through Debit Card. For debit card, you can make contributions that total up to $1,000 every 30-days. There may be tax consequences associated with deposits into a Seedling Custodial Savings Account. Please consult with a tax or financial professional regarding these potential consequences.

How many Seedling Custodial Savings Accounts may I open?

You may open only one account per child/minor.

How do I close my account?

To close a Seedling Custodial Savings Account related, please email hello@meetseedling.com.

I don’t live in the USA, can I create a Seedling profile or open a Seedling Custodial Savings Account?

No, you must reside in the USA to create a child/minor profile in Seedling Savings and open a Seedling Custodial Savings Account.

Can I add the child/minor’s email to the Seedling Custodial Savings Account?

Is there a Seedling Savings-related bank branch I can use?

No. Seedling Savings is an online or digital product only. For questions about your account, please contact our customer service at hello@meetseedling.com.

How will my personal information be used?

We treat your information seriously. Information you share with Seedling Savings will only be used for communications related to your account. It will not be sold or utilized by a third party for purposes other than making sure that you have a good experience.

I joined Seedling Savings but my application for a Seedling Custodial Savings Account was denied. What happens next?

You will receive information about this in the mail in about 5 – 7 days after your application was denied.

I forgot my password or I think my Seedling Savings account was hacked.

If you lost or forgot your password please email us at hello@meetseedling.com. If you think someone has withdrawn or transferred money without your permission from your deposit account or that your User ID or Password have been lost or stolen, please contact Seedling Savings immediately at hello@meetseedling.com.

2. Contributions from Gifting

Who is considered a Gifter/Contributor?

A Gifter/Contributor is anyone, such as a friend, a family member or a coworker, who contributes to a child/minor’s Seedling Custodial Savings Account.

What are the various ways someone can make a contribution?

Right now you can only contribute to the child/minor’s Seedling Custodial Savings Account using a debit card. We are working to add more payment methods in the future.

Is there a limit to how much and how frequently others can contribute to a Seedling Custodial Savings Account?

The contribution limit is $1,000 to each Seedling Custodial Savings Account.

What kind of information does a Gifter/Contributor see about the child/minor?

A Gifter/Contributor will only see the child/minor’s name, picture if included, and the personal message. As a custodian, you will have a chance to set up the contribution request page, called the “Gifting page,” and you can change your message and the child/minor’s photo at any time.

Is the child/minor’s Gifting page searchable on the Internet?

No – strangers won’t be able to find this page using search engines such as Google. All pages are private and only the people with the link can access it.

How and when should I ask friends and family to contribute?

It’s completely up to you! Research has told us that many people request gifts for birthdays, major holidays and milestones such as the year-end school report card.

What happens when a Gift/Contributor sends a contribution?

All contributions will be deposited directly into the child/minor’s Seedling Custodial Savings Account.

How will I know the funds were deposited?

You will receive a confirmation email once the funds are deposited.

How is a contribution acknowledged?

Once the funds are processed, the contributor will receive a confirmation email and certificate. They can print out the certificate to mail or give to the child/minor.

3. Gifters and Contributors

How does Gifting work?

It’s easy. A Gifter/Contributor completes the payment steps, writes a note and then sends the contribution. The funds are deposited in the child/minor’s Seedling Custodial Savings Account and we notify the account owner by email.

What payment methods can I use?

You can use a debit card to make a contribution. We are working to add more payment methods in the future.

What happens when I send a contribution?

Two things. First, the note you wrote will be emailed the account owner so they are aware that you contributed. Second, the funds will be deposited directly into the child/minor’s Seedling Custodial Savings.

How will I know the money I sent was deposited?

You will also receive a confirmation email once the deposit is completed.

How can I acknowledge that I sent a contribution?

Once a contribution is processed, you will receive confirmation email that includes a printable gift certificate. You can mail or send to the child/minor of the Seedling Custodial Savings Account.

How will my personal information be used?

We treat the information seriously. It will only be used for communications related to your account. Information you share with Seedling will not be sold or utilized by a third party for purposes other than making sure that you have a good experience on Seedling.

Are there tax implications for sending a gift using Seedling Savings?
